Levi is buried with Ann, Jacob, and Mary Jane The cemetery at Rigdon lies on the south side of the road which is theTownship line between Madison and Grant Counties but since many of thecitizens of Grant County lie buried there, we include the abstract ofthe cemetery in this book. Independence was laid out in 1851 on land in four townships and twocounties. The counties being Grant and Madison; the townships Libertyand Greene in Grant and Boone and Duck Creek in Madison County.According to Mrs. William C. Miller, Daniel Newkirk and his wife Pollyowned the land in Duck Creek Township; Daniel Bayless and his wifeSarah owned the land in Green Township; Prior Rigdon the land inLiberty Township; the land for the cemetery was donated by Eli andMatilda Hiatt. For a period of years it was known as Independence. Itwas laid out in 1851. In 1855 a post office was located there and thename changed to Rigdon because there was already a post office by thatname in the state. The earliest date on a monument is May 12, 1851.

I have assumed that this is Ann Adamson Hiatt's mother since the namesmatch and she is buried with Ann and Levi. This note accompanies the record of her grave marker: Adamson, Ann wife of Andrew Gray former wife of John Adamson died May 11, 1860 aged 77y.7m.1d. (DAR read the Adamson as Alexander, but I found Adamson was the clearest thing left to read on this stone. Badly weathered and almost illegible.).
