William Berry died in Caswell County in 1783. On June 17, 1783, Hudson was appointed administrator of this estate with John Anthony and Rebecca Berry as sureties on his official bond in this capacity.
2 William Berry'William Berry was born August 17, 1780. On May 30, 1805 he married Elizabeth Halbert. She was born in 1788. William Berry is buried at the Mt. Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, Tippah Co., Miss., 15 miles from Blue Mountain, Missipsippi. William and Elizabeth Halbert Berry had 11 children: (NOTE ADDED - Cemetery is the junction Miss. Hwy 30 -370, it is in (near) Union County, Missisisspi.)

(4) Miss Willin RogersThree years before the death of William Halbert, William Berry married his daughter, Elizabeth. At the time of the death of William Halbert in 1808, his youngest daughter, Lucinda, was only fifteen years of age.
In 1844, William Berry and his wife sold their plantation home on Generostee Creek in Anderson County, South Carolli_la, and together with their six married children and five single children moved to Pontotoc County. Mississippi, and settled near the Cherry Creek community. Their firstpursh0se_ of land was made on April 10 1843.
Mississippi had been admitted as a state in 1817. At that time, all of the northern,and central portions of Mississippi were in the possession of the Chickasaw and Choctaw Indians. By a treaty signed in 1830, the Choctaw Indians ceded all of the central portion of Mississippi to the United States government; and in 1832, at the village of Pontotoc, the Chickasaw Indians ceded the northern portion to the United States government and agreed to move to Oklahoma. This opened these sections of Mississippi to white settlement; and within a period of twenty years William Berry, David Berry, and many of the children of Mary Williams and Nathan Berry had settled in the northern section of Mississippi. In the same manner that Hudson Berry and William Halbert helped develop the pioneer Piedmont Section of South Carolina, the descendants of William, David, Mary and Nathan helped in the development of the State of Mississippi.
They brought with them an accumulation of fifty years' experience in the development of a pioneer country. All of them knew the details of the operation of Hudson Berry's saw mill, cotton factory, and grist mill. They knew how to select standing timber that was suitable for lumber, how to saw that timber into logs, how to transport the logs to a saw mill, how to convert those logs into lumber, and how to use the lumber to build houses, schools, and churches. They brought with them an adequate supply of cross-cut saws, axes, broad axes, hand saws, hammers, and froes, instruments which they knew how to use. Most of them had attended many log rollings and house raisings. They were, therefore, equipped with a rich background of experience that made it possible for them to develop this pioneer country much more rapidly than the Hudson Berrys, the William Halberts, the Gambrells, the Leavells, and the others had developed the Piedmont Section of South Carolina. Within the brief period of fifteen or twenty years, William and David Berry and their neighbors had developed this section into a rich, prosperous country.

As we know the south was devastated after the war, William James Adams
returned home from the Civil War with his horse. He was the oldest of the
Adams family. His parents, Joshua and Rebecca Patterson Adams had both died of Yellow Fever on the same day, 27 Aug. 1862. This left William James with 7 brothers and sisters that needed a home. During the war the children were
living with Lorenzo Dow Adams, brother of Joshua Adams. So William James Adams married Martha Melinda Hiett on 6 Dec 1865 in Tippah Co., Miss. so the younger children came to live with the bride and groom, which looks like 5 children probably moved into the household. By 1870 William James had 2 children of his own, plus 2 brothers and 1 sister living in his home. Things were very bad in Mississippi, so the William Adams family, along with John Charles Hiett and his wife, and some of their children decided to move west. Lorenzo Dow Adams and his large family had decided upon Texas and moved to the Sand Flats, Texas area outside of Cleburne, Texas. The large group probably traveled together for a long ways. The Adams and Hietts stopped in Conway, Ark. John Charles Hiett and Mary Berry Hiett both died in Conway, Ark. William James Adams had a very hard time in Ark. He lost 2 children plus his inlaws and Billie Hiett.
Billie was a brother of Martha Melinda Hiett Adams. One winter was
especially hard and they thought they might starve. William J. stuffed a
blanket into the mouth of a cub bear and killed it with his knife. In 1875
William James Hiett moved his family to Sand Flats, Texas and lived near his
uncle, Lorenzo Dow Adams.
The 1880 Census listed William James living in Godley, Texas and farming.
He was elected to serve as justice of the Peace for Cleburne, Texas. William
James had 10 children but only 7 lived to adulthood. He died in 1892 in
Godley, Texas. His wife, Martha, Worked the farm, raising the children, then
went to live with one of her daughters in Altus, Oklahoma and died there.
William James Adams served in the Confederate Army, Co. K & Co. L 2nd
Mississippi Calvary. This unit later became 11th Mississippi Calvary, Co. D.
