At the time of his marriage Joseph was a minor, his occupation being given as a miller of Sewrah.He witnessed the marriage of his son John in 1867.
The 1881 census records him at home in Stithians aged 63 with his family.
Upon Joseph's death his Letters of Administration were dated 15 June 1887 and prescribed that £425-15-6 be distributed by Elizabeth Ripper (wife) and Rosina Ripper (daughter).
The records show her as being of full age when she married, although Joseph was a minor.
Possible marriage in 1869, Redruth district. In the 1881 census in St Pancras, Middlesex is the entry of an Emma Ripper, an unmarried nurse living in the home of William Kelsey. Emma was stated as being born in Stithians 37 years earlier.
