Notes

William REPPER

William Ripper of Breage married Anne Arminal Medlyn of this parish at Sithney parish church by banns on 22nd November 1814.  They both made their marks.  The marriage was witnessed by John Kendall and William Russell.

At the time of the baptism of the first half of his family he is described as William of Polmenor (probably Tolmennor, a farm house near Breage) and his wife is shown as Arminal. For the second half of his family he is know as William of Ashtown (now known as Ashton) and his wife is recorded as Amelia.

In the 1841 census at Ashton, Breage were:
* William Ripper, 50, m, tin miner;
* Arminal Ripper, 53, f;
* Catherine Ripper, 25 f;
* John Ripper, 15, m;
* William Ripper, 14, m;
* Grace Ripper, 11, m;
* Richard Ripper, 9, m;
* Edward Ripper, 4, m.

Mary REPPER

At Mary's baptism her father is recorded as being of Vellenor, but this could be Polmenor.

Her date of baptism is shown as 30 Jun 1816, according to Wendy Taylor's research.

John RIPPER

John is the only child of William and Anne to have been baptised into the Methodist church.

John may have died as an infant or been baptised twice. His parents have another baptismal entry for a John at Breage. This may have been a requirement of the vicar of Breage at the time of the baptism of Eliza.

Eliza REPPER

Eliza may have died young or been baptised twice. The burial entries for Breage require investigation to establish a burial. Her parents baptise an Eliza the at Breage the year following her baptism.

In the 1841 census Eliza is an 18 year old servant living with a publican and his family on Kennegy Downs. The family with which she lives comprises John Rowe (30), Jane Rowe (25), Lavinia Rowe (1 yr) and Catherine Rowe (1mth).

Ann REPPER

In the GRO there is no Ann being registered as born, but there is an "Armial". This is almost certainly a child of, and probably the last in, this family.

William TREVERTHEN

   He was a miner

Catherine REPPER

When Catherine emigrated to Australia in 1873 she used her younger sister's (Eliza) details.

At the time Catherine was over 50 and Eliza was under 50, which presumably had a bearing on why she registered herself as Eliza for the purpose of the journey.

Anne REPPER

At Anne's baptism her father is described as being of Tolmennor.

John REPPER

John's death is probably registered in Redruth district in 1850 (2nd or 4th quarter) explaining why the 1851 census reveals no trace of John.

Sarah WILLIAMS

Line in Record @I1680@ (RIN 284001) from GEDCOM file not recognized:
OCCU a mine labourer

Following the death of her husband in 1850 Sarah was left in dire straits. The 1851 census shows her in Breage workhouse instead of being employed as a mine labourer, her usual employment. With her in the workhouse was her baby Sarah, just three months old and still dependant upon her mother. Sarah's son William was living with Sarah's parents, presumably a better place to be than the workhouse.

William Henry REPPER

In the 1851 census William was living with his grandparents (Thomas & Elizabeth Williams) at Ashton, Breage, Cornwall.

Sarah REPPER

Sarah was in the workhouse in Ashton, Breage aged 3 months, with her recently widowed mother.

Henry KEAST

Line in Record @I751@ (RIN 283072) from GEDCOM file not recognized:
OCCU a labourer and a farm labourer

Henry was born out of wedlock to Margaret (Peggy)Keast, the father being a John Pentecost. Henry was brought up by Margaret's older brother James and his wife Elizabeth (Rosewarne) Keast and probably never knew that they were not his real parents.

His marriage certificate shows his father as James and the witness is Elizabeth and he often refered to himself as Henry R Keast or Henry Rosewarne Keast.

In the 1861 census he is shown in St Erme, Cornwall.

In the 1881 census Henry is shown at Cooskale Cottage, St. Erme, Cornwall, England, his occupation being given as a farm labourer

Edward REPPER

Line in Record @I748@ (RIN 283069) from GEDCOM file not recognized:
OCCU an inn keeper at St Agnes, Cornwall

In the 1881 census Edward is recorded as an innkeeper at St Agnes, living with his wife Jane and their two sons William & John.

The 1891 census shows him as the landlord of the "Golden Lion" on the Quay in St Agnes. He was aged 53 and widowed. He is recorded with his son John and a visitor Mabel Lanyon, aged 19 and a dress maker. His wife's maiden name was Lanyon and this is likley to be a relative of hers.

Jane LANYON

In the 1881 census Jane is recorded as aged 40.

John Lanyon RIPPER

Line in Record @I765@ (RIN 283086) from GEDCOM file not recognized:
