From the News Paper: the Hutchinson News by John Green
TRAFFIC FATALITY WAS APPARENT SUICIDE
A Hutchinson man investigators initially thought was a traffic victim apparently shot himself in the head while driving and then crashed, the Reon County, Sheriff's Departmemt reported.
Brian G. Tipton 27 of 1203 Prairie was pronounced dead at the scene of the 10:00pm crash at Haven, Buhler Road and Lake Cable road, said Sgt. Bryan Mothes.
Officers had been scarching for Tipton for a couple of hours before the suicide, after he had called his wife and indicated he was going to kill himself.
Tipton had been desponcent for a couple of weeks over marital problems and was taking anti depressants. Mothes said. On prior occasions when he was contemplating sucide, Tipton drove to a residence in Haven to talk with a resident there, so it's assumed that's why he was in the area Tuesday night,Mothes said.
It's unclear what direction Tipton was headed in at the time, but after shooting himself in the head with a single .22 caliber gunshot, his vehicle ran off into the southbound ditch, Mothes said.
Investigators believe Tipton must have accelerated when he ran off the road. His car went through a fence into a field, went in several circles and then shot back throught the fence, finally stopping when it became high-centered. The car was still running when Tipton was found, Mothes said.
