John was a man with terriffic drive, strong physically, self reliant and resourcful,. He homesteaded in Nebraska bought a farm in Potwatomie County, Iowa where his children were born. He with his family migrated to the Saskatchewan, Canada for a year or so where he accumulated land. He returned his family to
      Tabor, Iowa so the children could attend school there. He divided his time between there and the farm east of Carson, Iowa where he established his oldest son George until the death of the latter in the flu epidemic in a pr. 1919. As he grew older he took more intrest in the stock market with good success. He was athletically inclined, an excellent ballplayer ( local ball games in lots or pastures were the in thing in Iowa then.) After are fifty he spent the winter in Omaha attending the stock exchange, taking his exercise at the YMCA he learned handball, entered the turnament and was runnerup in the Nebraska state tournament. He never bragged about it, he should of won. He was proud of his famliy. especially in their erducational achievement. A daughter and her husband teaches, sons a doctor and lawer and a grand daughter in Conservatiory of music and his cup runeth over. He was interested in civil affairs.
