EVEN Civil War Veteran, Union Army, Co. "A" 2nd Illinois Cavalry, Transferred to the Navy, Acting Paymaster
On 25 march 1869 at the age of 19, Hodgdon was a soldier in the Union Army in the Civil War. He enlisted in Company "A" 2nd. Illinois Cavalry and served threee years and one month; then transferred to the Navy, as Paymaster, with the rank of Major, from December to September. He was imprisoned in Alexandria, Louisiana. He was captured while carring dispatches.
