Bowater married Sarah Cook, d/o Thomas Cook, on October 12, 1752 at Warrington Meeting House, Pa. married 2nd Ann (Cook) Myers, sister of Isaac Cook.
Birth: Batch 5000438 #4, Film not available (9 July 1992)
Sarah Ann Cook Beals
Bowater Beals, born about 1722 married 10th month, 12, 1752, Sarah Ann
Cook, daughter of Thomas and Mary Underwood Cook. The wedding was at
Warrington Monthly Meeting, York County, Pa. and Alexander Underwood, the
Bride's grandfather and his second wife, Sarah (Bowater) Beals Underwood (the
groom's mother) were among those attended. Bowater died 9th of 2nd month, 1781 in Orange (now Almance) County, North Carolina. (Joseph Wells, the step-father of Isaac Cook, son of Thomas, was grandfather of Charity Wright Cook.
"The problem of Sarah Ann Cook Myers Beals is one I have puzzled over for some time. I have copies of some notes from Glenna Beck's files, one from some Kingston G. Hadley material and the other not identified. Both use the name Sarah Ann Cook, while only the second mentions Myers. Both claim to be taken from the Gershom Perdue Memoranda on Thomas Beals, but the Willard Heiss edition of 1974 states that Bowater Beals married Ann Cook, sister of Isaac Cook (Husband of Charity Cook.)" This was printed in Quaker Yoeman in 1975 and is a quotation from Wayne B. Hadley of Palmyra, Pa.
(I have a hardwritten copy of "First Friends in Northwest Territory" by
Perdue and copied by Huff, and a copy of Willard Heiss' booklet, neither of
which go into this.
In volume 2 issue 2 page 10, Jim Bellarts of Quaker Yoemen added this
statement re Sarah Ann Cook: "My theory is that 2 Sarah Cooks, nearly a century apart, have somehow been merged into one. Albert Cook Myers dedicated his book "Immigration of Irish Quakers into Pennsylvania" to his parents, John T. and Sarah A. Myers. His mother is identified on page 405 as the daughter of Jesse Cook and Ruth McMillan. This Sarah A. Cook probably married at Warrington Monthly Meeting as had the much earlier Sarah Cook.
Sent by Mrs. Edith Jackson Hankins. Memphis, TN.Donna Lamb had the name of Sarah Ann Cox, do not know where she got that
name, but will mention it as having been submitted. (Larry Anderson)
