OBITUARY Samuel Lindley Tipton of Luke and Priscilla, was born at Jerusalem, Ohio, December 5, 1856, and passed away on October 26, 1918, at Courtland, Kansas, at age 61 years, 10 months and 21 days. He grew to manhood in Ohio and was educated as a teacher in which profession he remained 25 years. He was married in 1879 to Mary Lohmire. One child was born who died in infancy. This union was of short duration, the mother dying in 1881. Mr. Tipton came to Kansas in 1882 where he was superintendant of schools in various places until 1902 when he located in Courtland. He was married to E. Belle Walker in 1887 at Lincoln, Nebraska, of which union two children were born. He is survived by his wife, daughter Frances Adaline, of Canton, Mo., and son Dr. J. Roscoe of Dallas, Texas. (listed above) were with him at the time of his death. Other surviving relatives are: J. Roscoe, Jr., grandson, of Dallas, Texas; three brothers, Thomas Luke, and Lorenzo Lewis , of Jerusalem, Ohio, and David of Morehead, Kansas, three sisters: Mrs. Priscilla Tomlinson, of Webber, Kansas, Mrs. Loretta Mann, of Bostwick, Nebraska, adn Mrs. Elvira Johnson, of East Auburn, California. The deceased was a member of the Methodist Church since his youth. Burial was in Courtland Cemetery, the Rev. Blomberg officiating... Those from a distance... were Mrs. S.L. Tipton and Miss Frances Tipton of Canton, Missouri, Dr. J. R. Tipton, of Dallas, Texas, Mrs. Joe Tomlinson and daughter Lura and Mr. & Mrs. Barkley of Webber, W.F.
