Andrew and Sarah lived at Rock Springs, in the northwest corner of the state of Georgia, in the area known as the "Peavine District" (1870 census). Andrew and his wife Sarah are buried in Rock spring Cemetery next to Rock Spring Methodist Church, Rock Spring, GA. People currently living on the farm confirm seeing tombstones in the fields with the HICKS surname on them as well. The 1830 cens us for Walker Co., GA, listed "10-white persons" in the household of Andrew J. Hicks. When Andrews' will was probated in 1900, his son Mashack lived in Lutie, Ozark Co, MO and other of his children in Brownbranch, Taney Co, MO. His daughter Mary lived at Chickamauga, GA, his son A.J., Sarah, and Margaret lived at Rock Springs, GA.
Their home was in North Carolina, near Mt. Airy and of Wilkes County area. They were neighbors of Siamese Twins, and that was interesting to know how they worked and lived together. She faintly remembered "Brother Rufus" and "Brother Joseph. She was 16 years old when she married Joesph Tipton.
The early Tiptons had a plantation and slaves in Virginia, closer to Wytheville, Max Meadows and Pulaski. The "Little Red School House" was on their property. During the slave "uprising" Rebecca Jane Tipton was Taking her uncle Jim who was 17 years old at the time to schoool away from home, on hores back. A man came galloping up on a hores back, behind them and said that the slaves were killing the poeple on the plantation. She was pregnant at the time. She dismounted, putting her hand on her hip, and when her child Scott was born, he had a black hand in the same spot. Rebecca said the southern & the North soldiers stopped at their home often during the War.
