Christopher Gilbert MATTIAS Sr.

December 25, 1916

Christoper Gilbert Mattias was born in Rhode Island.  The second son of Manuel and Mary Mattias.  He loved his family and was devoted to his mother.
I remember him telling me stories about how wonderful she was and how kind and loving she was to everyone.

The family moved from Rhode to California sometime between 1925 and and March 1929 because Uncle Ray was born in San Francisco, CA.  They first lived in Gilroy CA and worked as Dairy Farmers.

My father, what can I say about the person who went to work everyday no matter how he felt, or what the job was that he had to do?  Kind of heart and fun loving nature. He was devoted to his mother and as I was growing up, I told love to hear the stories he told me as a small boy living in Rhode Island.

Although my father was not perfect he was a perfect father in my eyes. He made me laugh and when I was afraid  he could make me feel safe.

I hope he is dancing and fishing in heaven because those were the things he loved the most.  Next was singing.  He always thought he was a good singer.

When ever I hear the Ink Spots I see my dad singing." I/I'm Looking Over A Four Leaf Clover I Overlooked Before."

Chris is buried in Linn Creek Missouri in the Alexander Family Cemetery and It is near the Lakes of the Ozarks, one of the best fishing spots in the United States.

Homer Byron UNDERWOOD Sr.

6 Jun 1944, buried at Box Elder Cemetery, Leachville, Arkansas.

23 Dec 1932  Marriage Records at Mississippi Co., Rec pg. 327 bk X

A Story about my Father, Homer Byron Underwood As told to Kim Kester by Jewel Neel My Dad was a Carpenter, a Farmer, and a Muscian. He sang in a quartet for Churches and County Parties. He made duck boats and carved duck calls something that was passed down from generation to generation.

He was a great hunter and fisherman, and would work as a logger during the winters. He did quite abit of different things, but he had to, to make a living for all of his children.  I may sound like I'm bragging about him, and maybe I am.  Back in those days there was no such thing as welfare, an I can't remember doing without the things that we needed.

I don't remember too many stories that he told us, because he didn't have time to tell us stories, he was always working hard to make us a living. He was one hell of a guy, my Father, Homer Byron Underwood.
