Richard Wells II, (1752 PA - 1814 KY), son of Colonel Richard Wells I, and Anne (Brown) Wells, married (1) Honor Holms (1752 - 177-). Two children are known to have survived: Alexander and mary (Presley Oldham).
On 5 February 1781, Richard Wells II married Jane "Jinnie" Brown ( d. 1732 MO). Their children were: Edward, b. 1782 PA, Thomas Nicholas, Richard III, Hugh, John who died as infant, George, John born 10 December 1799, Patience and Joshua.
The 1817 census for St. Charles reports that all of the family were there except Edward, the eldest, who is believed to have been dead by then. It is also believed that his family joined the others later.
"The Centenial History of Pike County," read by Clayton Keith at the Centennial celebration at Louisiana, Missouri, 4 July 1876, names ten families, and suggests there may have been others who arrived with Jon, James, and Robert Jordan in 1808. Keith continues: "These settlers were encouraged by the arrival in 1808 of a colony from Kentucky among whom were James and Arthur Burns and James O'Neal with their families, who settled near the present site of Clarksville."
Houck's History of Missouri, Vol. III, page 157, states: "As early as 1808, a number of Immigrants from South Carolina and Kentucky settled in Pike County." Among these were Joseph Holliday, Charles (Chas.) Montjoy, William Berry, John Bryson, William F. Holliday, James MacKey. The list of early settlers continues on page 158 where Houck lists those who settled Ramsy Creek in 1811: Jos McCoy, Daniel McCue, Eli Burkalew, George Myers, Anderw Edwards, Joseph Harpoel. The History of Pike County, 1878, dates the first arrival of settlers on Ramsey Creek as 1810.
With the exception of Joseph Harpoel, these men who settled on Ramsey Creek were, or bacame, members of the Buckalew Clan.
