John Randall lived with his father in Westerly on land purchased of Thomas Bell of Stonington until he reached manhood, when he came to Stonington and bought large tracts of land, which was intersected by the society line that divided the town of Stonington into two religious societies in 1721.
He was a farmer by occupation and as such reduced his land grants to cultivation, which he industriously and successfully improved during the remainder of his life.
Abigail, first wife of John jr. was admitted to the church by "owning of ye covenant", 1 Sep. 1695.  We suppose she had recently been married.

See GENEALOGICAL DICTIONARY OF RHODE ISLAND, comprising three generations of settlers who came before 1690, by John Osborne Austin, pub. 1887, for the families of John Randall.  (This is a large book available in the Logan library).

Notes regarding the father of John Jr. or John Sr. who was the progenitor of the Randall family of Westerly and Stonington.  He first appears at Newpower, RI from which place he came to Westerly as early as 1667 where the remainder of his life was spent,- - -Gen. of a Branch of Randall Family
John Randall was at Westerly, RI in territory claimed by Conn. as in Stonington in 1667, and was recorded as a farmer in 1669.  In 1670 he bought a lot of land on the Pawcatuck Rivesr and was admitted an inhabitant of Stonington Nov 30, 1670.  In 1682 he was a deputy from Westerly to the RI Assembly and in 1679 took the oath of fidelity to RI.  He died at Westerly about 1684-5.

Letter from Olive Randall Budkley of Superior, Wisconsin to Howard L. Randall, dated 22 Nov. 1936. with "data copied            by a friend, 1936 Birds Units. Gen. Society Rooms, London."

Notes:  We find in the Archives the finished sheet of the John Randall and Elizabeth Morton family, showing four children, John, Stephen, Matthew and Peter.  This family was sealed Jan. 25, 1949 by Mrs. B. Ritenburgh, 302 S. Hobson, Mesa, AZ for the Merrill Family.
The RANDALL FAMILY GENEALOGY, HISTORY OF STONINGTON, AND GEN. DICT. OF R.I. all list but four children for this family.
However a letter from Olive Randall Buckley, states the following:  "All genealogeists seem to agree that our John was a silk manufacturer and came to America in 1667 after the plague and fire in London.  He settled in Newport, RI and then Westerly.  His wife was Elizabeth Morton, and they came with one child, John Jr., b. 1666 in England, but they had two sons born earlier, William and Nathaniel, and they had three sons born in Westerly.
The register of St. James Church, Clerkinwell, London, England, copies of which are in the New Eng. Gen. Society Lib., Boston, Mass., contains full data relating to the births of William and Nathaniel Randall.  Nathaniel or William are not mentioned in any other Randall genealogies I have ever seen.  It seems probale that Nathaniel came ovesr at a diffenet time, with his Uncle perhaps.  He was last heard from in Philadelphia 1695, and perhaps he returned to England.

Elizabeth NORTON

Sister to Sir William Morton, native of London, ENG.   Regarding the ancestry of Elizabeth, wife of John Randall, the Emmigrant; "Sir William Morton,  d. 1669.  He was proud of his birthplace.  A ten acre grant in Bachelor's Cove in Groton, CT.   Given by the town 1650, was sold 1695, and the deed confirmed by his heir, his nephew, Nathaniel, son of John and Elizabeth.

William RANDALL

died young, or perhaps was the William Randall who later settled in MA.

Nathaniel RANDALL

Heir to his uncle, Sir William Morton of New London, CT.
