Dewitt Clinton"Clint" HENRY

It is really exciting to hear from you. I think genealogy is so hard because the old records were hand written, hard to read and so many of them are not even accurate. I know that Dewitt Clinton (Clint) Henry lived in Marne, not Maine, Iowa. It is a small town close to Atlantic. I just came back from a trip to Atlantic where I go once in awhile to see what I can find. There are so many cemeteries and so far I can not find Lucy or Clint in any of them. I hope to be going again this summer or at least when the weather is better. I live in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa (Henry co.) in the extreme Southeast of the state. The library in Mt. Pleasant has loads of stuff on Henry Co. but not the other counties. I am going to see it the neighboring town of Burlington has a bigger library. I am going to have to diagram what you sent so I have something to go on when I find a good library. I may have to go to Navoo which is only 53 miles from here. We are getting ready to go to a super bowl party but tomorrow I will go through my stuff and send what I have on the Henrys. Most of them ended up in Minnesota. I was thinking that I would send out letters to all the Henrys who live in Norman and Clay Co., Minnesota, and see if they are descendants of my line of Henry or if they have any photos. The Henry family was a very good family and they all seemed to stick together other than with Clint. It is sad but also very funny that Clint married a 50 yr. old thinking she was 37. When you get into genealogy, you never know what you will find. I found a murder in my grandmother's Dilts family and I found some of my father's aunts (more Dilts) ran brothels in Des Moines. No wonder my father never told me a thing! My father never told me about his father or siblings. My father was angry because his mother threw his father out for not making enough money. My father didn't see his father for years and years. After my father died, I found some Henry names on a piece of paper in his drawer. When I researched it, I found that my father had 3 sisters and 2 brothers. I sent out letters to Henry families all over the middle part of the USA and finally found one brother who told me about the others. I made one good friend in New Orleans who was from the French Henry family but he wanted to help me research after he got his letter. We have become very good friends and he even came for a visit a few years ago. My husband and I really love him and have kept him as a good friend ever since. So many of the Henrys and their close relatives (Robinson, Furman) lived in Oregon. Most of my family lives there so I have spent a lot of time researching there but I never came up with anything. I am sort of at a dead end. I will send things tomorrow about Henrys. Glad to hear from you, Dawn

From Eddy family site, Internet.  Larry Anderson
Dewitt Clinton Henry married Lucy J. Eddy on 8 August 1883 at Marne, Cass Co., Iowa. Lucy was born in Vermont @ 1846. She is listed as a widow but has kids named Lusa E. Eddy and Eddie E. Eddy. Her parents were E. Eddy and L. A. Fish. It sounds like she is using her maiden name for herself and her kids. Dewitt Clinton Henry, her second husband, had been living in Clarksville, Merrick Co., Nebr. where he was married to Mary Jane Furman with whom he had one child, Judson Dewitt Henry, born 1879. They must have divorced and gone on to marry again. Does anyone know what happened to D. C. Henry and Lucy J. Eddy? Where did they go?

My reply: The thing that makes it so hard to trace people is that they named their kids after themselves. It looks like Lucy J. Eddy who married Stephen E. Streeter was the daughter of the Lucy Eddy who married Dewitt Clinton Henry. Do you have any photos of any of these people? I have always wanted a photo of Dewitt because he is my great grandfather and no one knows much about him.
Dewitt Clinton Henry (He went by the name: Clint) (he is listed as D. W. Henry in a few places and that threw me off)
family records (handwritten by family) say he was born in Illinois on April 8, 1849 but he is listed as being born in 1849 and 1850 in on line records.
his parents, Abraham Henry and Rachel Jones (they came from Pennsylvania to Kane Co., Ill. to Jackson Co, Iowa to Clay Co. Minnesota)
Married Mary Jane Furman married on 16 Sept 1871 in Jackson Co. Iowa
1800 Census has them in Clarksville, Merrick Co., Nebraska
one child, Judson Dewitt Henry, born 26 Aug 1879, Nebraska
moved to Cass Co., Iowa
Divorced Mary Jane Furman @ 1883 probably in Cass Co., Iowa
Married 2nd wife, Lucy J. Eddy on 8 Aug 1883 (born in Vermont to Ezekiel Eddy and L. A. Fish in 1846
She had children: Lusa E. Eddy, b. 1866,Iowa (on line records show her as Lucy J. Eddy)
Eddie E. Eddy b. 1870 in Illinois
(I don't know why the kids have her maiden name. Who fathered the kids?)
she married Dewitt Henry on 8 Aug 1883 in Marne, Cass Co. Iowa
I have been trying to find out if she and Dewitt clinton Henry had any children. I can not find a thing about them.
What I want to know is: Where and when did Dewitt Clinton Henry die and where is he buried. In 1895 he was in Marne, Cass Co. Iowa working as a barber.
The rest of Dewitt's family was in Clay and Norman co., Minnesota but I have never found him there. One brother was in Benningham, Kansas but I have never found him there.
I think he died in Cass Co. and where did Lucy Eddy go? Do you know anything at all? Dawn Wheat
