Obituary: Sgt. John Paul Gonzales, Sr., RLLD
Our loving son, father, grandfather, and brother, Sgt. John Paul Gonzales, Sr., RLLD, succumbed May 24, 2001, after a long battle with cancer. Born February 15, 1947 to Felipe and Katie Gonzales. Enjoyed a lifetime of helping others, including his children and eight grandchildren whom he loved so much. He graduated from West High School. John touched the lives of many, and was involved in many different social clubs and congregations, including: President of the KO youth club, Executive V.P. of the W. V. C. Jaycee's and was supervisor of the V. A. Medical Center, Textile Care Division, Dayton, Ohio, where he was well liked by his peers and employees. John loved to paint. His favorites were, "Sea Scape", and "Utah Mountains". His goal, to teach, he realized and did very well. He became a proficient instructor of painting with oils at Michael's, where he was respected and loved by his students. He had said, "I've" always wanted to teach how easy it is to paint." He lived a lifelong goal of being on D.A., and C.A. television with his own program, "Painting with John". He worked hard to provide for his family and brought them together in unity. The most precious, was his gift of love, as he was loved by so many. Survived by his parents; Felipe and Katie Gonzales, West Valley City; his children; Michelle Miera (Ray Ortiz), Dayton, Ohio; John (Kathy) Gonzales, Jr., Roosevelt, UT; and eight grandchildren he adored; brothers and sisters Rose Cordova, Albuquerque, N.M.; Joe (Charise) Gonzales; Robert (Jill) Gonzales; Betty (Don) Manning; Phillip, Jr. (Nora) Gonzales; and Kathy (Ed) Riding, all of West Valley City, also numerous nieces, nephews. A funeral mass will be celebrated Wed. 9:30 a.m. at Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 3560 W. 3650 S. A Rosary will be held Tuesday 7 p.m. at the Neil O'Donnell & Sons Mortuary, 372 East 100 South, where friends may call from 6-8 p.m., also at the mortuary.
