Evert Jasper Tuning was born July 29, 1907, in Templeton, near Wessington Springs, South Dakota. He died June 28, 1996, in McMinnville, Oregon. He was the sixth child of John and Martha [Pressnalle] Tuning. The family moved to Greenleaf, Idaho in 1920 (1922). Evert graduated from Greenleaf Friends Academy and from Portland Bible Institute, later Cascade College, in Portland, Oregon. He was a lifelong member of the Friends Church and pastored Friends churches in Homedale, Idaho, and in Oregon in Marion, Scotts Mills and Sprague River.
He married Virena Rinard in 1933. They moved to Sprague River in 1942 and lived there most of the time until 1967. when they moved to Klamath Falls and started the Friends Church where he was pastor and co-pastor until his retirement. Evert and Virena moved to Friendsview Manor in Newberg, Oregon in 1983.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his son, Charles; three grandsons; a granddaughter; his parents; four brothers and one sister. He is survived by; daughters and sons-in-law, Jo Anne and Kenneth Magee of Klamath Falls, Oregon and Doris and Steven Pearson of Eugene, Oregon; son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Gloria Tuning of San Antonio, Texas; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sister Olive Piersall of Caldwell, Idaho; sister Bethel and Ed Cronrath of Nampa; and brother Theodore Tuning of Boise, Idaho, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A memorial fund has been established at the Klamath Falls Friends Church, 1918 Oregon Avenue, Klamath Falls, Oregon 97601. Funeral service will be held today, July 3 ant 3 pm at Attrill's Newberg Funeral Chapel. Committal service will follow with interment in Newberg Friends Cemetery.

NEWBERG, OREGON .. Virena Tuning, 81 of Newberg, Oregon died Tuesday, October 8, 1991, at home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct 11 at Attrell's Funeral Chapel, a Golden Rule Funeral Home, Newberg, Oregon. Retired Friends minister Oscar Brown will officiate. Graveside services with interment will follow in Friends Cemetery Newberg.
Virena Tuning was born February 13, 1910 in Greenleaf, Idaho a daughter of Conway H. and Erma Carter Rinard. She attended schools in Greenleaf and graduated from Greenleaf Friends Academy and Northwest Nazarene College.
She married Evert J. Tuning of Greenleaf on May 4, 1933. In 1942 the family moved to Sprague River, Oregon, where Evert became pastor of the Sprague River Friends Church when Sprague River was the center of the Klamath Indian Reservation.
Virena greatly loved the Indian people and leaves many friends among them. She was a member of the Friends Church and came to know Jesus as a young girl. She gave unsparingly of her time and energy to teach children in the church, to lead women's groups and to help her husband in his pastoral duties. For a time she was a mother to foster children.
In 1947 they moved to Klamath Falls, Oregon. and started the Friends Church, Evert being the first pastor of the church. They moved to Friendsview Manor in 1983. Virena was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed crocheting and other crafts. She especially enjoyed growing flowers, both indoors and out. She was a faithful and loving wife and mother. Truly " her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband, also and he praiseth her." Proverbs 31:28.
Survivors include her husband, Evert; two daughters, Jo Anne of Klamath Falls, Ore. and Doris of Eugene, Ore. ; two sons-in-law, Kenneth Magee of Klamath Falls, and Steven Pearson of Eugene; one son, Donald Tuning of San Antonio, Texas; one daughter in law Gloria Tuning of San Antonio; one brother John Rinard of Boise; two sisters in law, Marie Rinard of Boise, and Helen Rinard; three sisters, Margaret Longstroth of Salem, Ore., Mary Palmer of Nyssa, Ore. and Florence Holton of Ontario, Ore., three brothers in law, Granger Longstroth of Salem, John Palmer of Nyssa and Floyd Holton of Ontario, Ore.; 11 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and those who have come to know and appreciate her where she has lived. She was preceded in death by her son Charles; her parents; two sisters, Ruth Rinard and Malinda French; three brothers, Harold, Harlan, and Glen Rinard.
