Nehemiah BLACKSHAW


Arrived at Deleware in America at age 3  in 1682

Randolph Blackshaw, age 60 of Hollinger, Chesire, his wife Alice, aged 43, and children Phebe, 16, Sarah 14, Abraham, 10, who died at sea; Jacob, 8, Mary 6, Nehemiah, 3, and Martha, 1, all were on the “Submission, according to the log.  They brought as servants Roger Bradbury and his family, but of these, his wife Ellenor, sons Jacob, Joseph and Roger Bradbury were apparently sold in Maryland for their passage, while only Rober himself, his 14 year old daughter Martha, and 8 year old daughter Sarah, came to Pennsylvania with the Blackshaws.  The Blackshaws had sent over other servants on the “Friend’s Adventure,pg.65  Sailed from Liverpool Sept 6, 1682, arrived in Chesapeake Bay on 2 November 1682

Three servants sent over on the “Friend’s Adventure” by Randolph Blackshaw who came later this year, were William Beasy, Ralph Nuttall and Ralph Cowgill.  Cowgill, presumed son of Ellen Cowgill, probably passenger on the “Lamb” of Liverpool, later m. 1st Sarah, daughter of Randolph Blackshaw, and 2nd, Sara Pancoast of Burlington Co.  . . .  Early in 1695 Blackshaw sold Cowgill 1/2 acres of land, and then in 1697 made over 200 acres in trust for Cowgill’s minor sons Abraham and Nehemiah.  (Bucks Court Records, 292,311.  According to the original Bucks County Register, it is quite clear that a fourth servant was alson on the “Friend’s Adventure”;  William Smith, whom Phinehas Pemberton sent over.pg 46

30 August 1882 - the “Submission” - Randle (Randolph) Blackshaw:  4 fardels, 2 bundles, 5 barrels, 2 casks, 2 bags qty.  118 lbs. woolen cloth; 150 ells English linen; 90 lbs. new shoes; 56 lbs. silk manufactured; 6 lbs. thrown silk; 1/2 cwt. & 10 lbs. haberdashery; 5 1/2 doz. men’s woolen stockings; 2 doz. men’s worsted stockings; 1 doz. Yorkshire cushions; 2 cwt. nails; 2 cwt. wrought iron; 6 cwt. cast lead.pg 65

Arrived in Appoquinimink (Bucks County, PA?) on the fifteenth day of the eleventh month of 1683.  With family residents of Bucks County by 1684.

Educated at Oxford for ministry.  Joined Quakers and was driven from his home.  Became a Quaker minister and friend of William Penn.  He and wife came 25 June 1699 from Long Newton, ENG to PA.  Hinshaw, Falls MM, PA: “1709,6,7.  John & w.Rebecca rocf Dubling (sic) MM”

“JOHN LINTON, and wife, Rebecca, late of Wigton.  From Mo. Mtg. at Long Newton, England, dated 6 mor 25, 1699.  He ‘walked amongst us these severall yeares.’  ‘She Came of beleveing parents and was Educated in ye way of truth from Childhood.’”  Certificates of Removal Received at Philadelphia Meetings, 1682-1750 (Ancestry.com)
