Subject: William F Paxton & Margaret Shields Family
I believe William F Paxton (b. Mar 1865 Scotland) and Margaret Shields (1868-1944) are the parents of Robert W Paxton born Feb 1898 in California who married my 2nd Cousin 1 Time Removed: Martha Josephine Vincent (1893-1960) about 1914 of Susanville, Lassen, California, USA. Robert appears as a son on the 1900 Census (Ventura, California) of William and Margaret Paxton and I believe he may or may not be the same Robert Paxton on subsequent Census records for William and Margaret (due to the approx birth date discrepancies).
1900 Census (Ventura County, California) he appears as Robert W Paxton b. Feb 1898
1910 Census (Ventura County, California) he appears as Robert H Paxton 8 Years old (b. abt 1902)
1920 Census (Ventura County, California) he appears as Robert C Paxton 17 Years 5 Months (b. abt 1902)
1930 Census (Ventura County, California) he appears as Robert Paxton 26 Years (abt 1904) with his brother William (31) and mother Margaret (65).
I see in nFS that you were working on the father and mother's records recently. Do you have any more information on this family - I am trying to identify more about the Robert Paxton that married Martha Josephine Vincent. She was married 3 times that I can find:
MARRIAGE: Robert Paxton abt 1914 Susanville, Lassen, California, USA
MARRIAGE: Paul B Jacklin 24 Dec 1921 Rio Vista, Solano, California, USA
Divorced from Paul before 1030
MARRIAGE: Harold Capp (Unknown Date of Marriage).
I would appreciate any information you can share with me on this family.
Thanks

Elmer PAVETT (aka) William Elmer (Camp) VINCENT.
Occ: Stage Driver, Box Factory Worker, Farmer.William E Camp appears on the 1880 Barlow, Washington, Ohio Census as Grandson of Edward and Rowena Camp and his mother Emma K Camp is living with them.
The Camp family tradition states that Elmer was the only son of Andrew PAVETT and Emma Rowena CAMP both of whom died while Elmer was very young and he was raised by his grandparents, Edward & Rowena (Gard) CAMP. While he was growing up Elmer used the last name of CAMP. When he was 12 years old, he was sent to Kansas to live with his "Uncle Willie VINCENT." Elmer was 19 when he and his cousin, Harry C VINCENT and another young man hitch-hiked from central Kansas to California settling near Susanville, Calivornia. Johnson in his fairly accurate "HIATT & HIATT GENEALOGY" states this event occurred in 1892 which would have placed his age at 23. It is interesting to note that the Camp family tradition would put his leaving Kansas in the year that his gradfather Edward CAMP died (1888).
After arriving in California he changed his name to William Elmer VINCENT. Elmer may have felt that he never knew his real parents so PAVETT ment nothing compared to the name VINCENT. He also selected his uncle's first name as his own in addition to the last name. Elmer later married his first cousin, Ethel A VINCENT in 1930.
See the 1880 Census info in the notes of Emma (K) Rowena Camp PAVETT (#85) on the VINCENT families living next to Edward and Rowena CAMP.
Burial: Susanville Cemetery, Susanville, Lassen, California.
