Gardner was a machinist of Bernham, Maine. After his marriage to Miriam, they
removed to Portsmouth, OH where their only child, Charles was born. They very
soon afterward removed to Malta, then to Zanesville, remaining a comparatively
short time at each place. Miriam "went into a decline" and came back to the
paternal roof to die, which she soon did, of consumption. It is remembered
that grandfather Phineas DUNSMOOR died with this same disease which killed all
but one of the family of his son Hiel.
