Joseph William SHARP

Joseph William Sharp, age 91, of Grant, died Monday, March 29, 2004, at Good Samaritan Center in Idaho Falls. Joseph was born August 18, 1912 at Bybee, Idaho a son of William and Mary Eliza Jones Sharp. He attended schools in Lewisville and Rigby and while in school drove the horse drawn buggy and sleigh to school picking up the other students along the way. He also cared for the horse during his lunch break. He married Jessie Gardner in the Salt Lake LDS Temple October 4, 1937 . He farmed in the Lewisville area for a short time. Joe went to work as a finish carpenter and spent most of his life working in surrounding area building many construction projects. He also built much of his own furniture for his home such as hutches, book cases and cabinets. He also built the cabinet that holds the Filo Farnsworth T.V. Tube at the Museum in Rigby. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in the Spanish American mission for the church. He loved working with and caring for the Spanish people locally, serving 3 Spanish speaking missions for the Menan Stake. Music was a very important part of his life singing with a Barber Shop Group in Idaho Falls and playing the piano and violin. He was a avid artist, was member of the Rigby Art Guild and displayed his art in local banks. Joe enjoyed fishing, hunting rocks and building jewelry from the rocks he found. Survivors include: his wife Jessie Gardner, 2 daughters, JoAnn (Jared) Murray of Rigby and Merna (Thomas) Summers of Pocatello, 1 son Marvin (Patsy) Sharp of Lyman, Wyoming, 3 brothers Merrill J. Sharp of Salt Lake City, Alvin Sharp of Rigby and Steven (Hazel) Saharp of Roseberg, Oregon, 14 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother Ivan Sharp, 1 sister Verla Schnieder, 1 grandson and 1 great grandson. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 2, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. at the Grant 1st Ward LDS Chapel with Bishop Alan Batt officiating. The family will visit with friends on Thursday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby and on Friday from 11:30 a.m.to 12:45 p.m. at the Grand 1st Ward Chapel. Interment will be in the Grand Central Cemetery.


Jessie Vilate GARDNER

Jessie Vilate Sharp, 90, of Grant, Idaho died Sunday, April 25, 2004 in Pocatello, Idaho. Jessie was born January 15, 1914 in Grant, Idaho the daughter of Frances Ada Gardner and Pricilla Rose Randall Gardner. She attended schools in Rigby, Midway, Riverside and graduated from Blackfoot High School. She attended Nursing School in Idaho Falls, Idaho earning her LPN. She worked at the LDS Hospital in Idaho Falls with Dr. Bill Brunt and continued nursing into her seventies spending many hours caring for the sick and dying. She married Joseph William Sharp in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple on October 4, 1937. As a member of the LDS Church she served in the Relief Society as President and as a Councilor. She served in the Young Womens organization and Primary as Primary President. She served a mission to the Central States Mission in Kansas City, Missouri. and three spanish speaking missions for the Menan Stake with her husband.. She loved to sew, quilt, make porcelain dolls, decorate wedding cakes and loved to serve others. She is survived by two daughters, JoAnn (Jared) Murray of Rigby, Idaho and Merna (Thomas) Summers of Pocatello, Idaho. A son, Marvin (Patsy) Sharp of Lyman, Wyoming. A sister, Mary Graff of Templeton, California and two brothers, Morris (Arthella) Gardner of Hamilton, Montana and Milton (Arla) Gardner of Brittish Columbia, Canada. Fourteen grandchildren and twenty-nine great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Joseph William Sharp, her parents, two sisters, a brother, a grandson and a great grandchild. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 29, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. in the Grant Ward LDS Chapel with Bishop Alan Batt officiating. The family will meet with friends Wednesday, April 28, 2004 in the Grant Ward LDS Chapel from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. and on Thursday, April 29, 2004 at the Grant Ward LDS Chapel from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Burial will in the Grant Central Cemetery under the direction of Eckersell Funeral Home.

I believe the following will is that of the widow of William B. Guthery:

State of Missouri, County of Daviess..............February 16th 1874 I Elizabeth M. Guthery of the County and State aforesaid, do hereby make my last will and testament. It is my will that all of my Real estate be divided between my four children William A. Guthery, Mattie N. Guthery, Nancy M. Guthery and Charles P. Guthery.  I hereby bequeath unto my two sons, William A. Guthery and Charles P. Guthery all of my Real Estate described as follows to wit: The East half of the south East quarter and the North East fractional quarter East of Grand River of Section Twenty Seven and the South East quarter of the south West quarter of Section Twenty Six, all in Township Sixty of Range Twenty Eight, to have and to hold the same provided that when Charles P. Guthery arrives at the age of twenty one years they quit claim Mattie N. and Nancy M. Guthery all claim they may have on the home place on which I reside at this time to wit: The east half of the North east quarter and the North East of the South East quarter North of Grand River of Section Thirty one, and apart of the West part of the West half of the North West quarter, and part of the North West of the South West, North of Grand River of Section Thirty two all of Township Sixty of Range Twenty Seven.  I also will and bequeath to my two daughters Mattie N., and Nancy M. Guthery my house place described above to be devided between them when Nancy M. Guthery arrives at the age of eighteen years: I also bequeath to my three youngest children Mattie N., Nancy M. and Charles P. Guthery one hundred dollars of my personal estate when they arrive at lawful age.  The above described Real estate to be held and used for the benefit of my said children until by the terms of the said " " " there can be a proper division of the same, I hereby appoint John A. Brown my executor to carry out the provisions " " the foregoing will and to settle up the estate of Mathew Nelson of which I am administrator, I also will and bequeath to each one of my children one horse and one bed and bedding as now understood and claimed by them.  The balance of my personal property to be sold at public sale and applied to the payment of all just claims and expenses and the residue to be equally divided between my children as they " " become of age.
