Graduated from LaRue High School and Ohio Wesleyan University, Phi Beta Kappa. Like his brother, Erwin, he was outstanding as a student and in person these brothers were exceptional for character, charm and unusual good looks, which they inherited from handsome parents. Bernard practiced law with his brother for a time, after which he went into business, and later on was joined by his brother Erwin, in business in Cleveland.
