James WRIGHT

   Sent by Bernice Norris.  James married 2nd to Mary Jane West on 25 Mar 1844, Mary Jane is D/o James West and Elizabeth Leggett.  James is brother of Sampson Wright who married Anna Hiatt, sister of Elizabeth.  See Vol I page 364 Some Quaker Families.  On 25 July 1812 James recrq Fairfield MM, Ohio. On 24 December 1812 charter member Clear Creek MM, Highland Co., Ohio.  On 2 December 1816 charter member Newberry MM, Clinton Co., Ohio.  On 25 Nov 1830 both disowned for joining the Hicksite Friends.  They lived in Martinsville, Clinton Co., Ohio.

   In 1805 moved to OH, and in 1806 moved to the present site of Martinsville, Clark Twnshp, Clinton Co., OH.  Laid out the town and built the first store in Clark Twnshp.  The first Quaker Meeting in this area was held in his home.  On 31 Oct 1812 Sarah recrq Fairfield MM, OH.

“Melissa Wright married Mr. West. They had two sons, Harky West, and Walter West. After the death of Mr. West, Melissa married the second time to the Rev. Parker Moon. They moved from Clinton County, Ohio, to near Carthage, Missouri, about 1869.

“They had several children; I remember only Lonnie, and the two West boys, Harley, and Walter. I visited many times in their homes.
“The Rev. parker Moon was a noted evangelist, and Sunday School worker, and traveled over Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. His work was with the Pioneers and also among the Indians. He also served as pastor of the Quaker Church in the Quaker community northwest of Carthage, Missouri,  This was a large Quaker settlement, composed of families from Clinton County, Ohio, and many Eastern states. Our family attended church there many times when I was a boy. We had a number of kinfolks living in that settlement. He also worked in the Quaker church in Lowell, Kansas, where there was also a Quaker Academy. He also worked in the Quaker Valley community north of Baxter Springs, Kansas. There was also an Academy in this settlement. His last work was in and near Phoenix, Arizona. He then retired, and lived in Carthage, Missouri until his death some years ago. He served in the Quaker church for more than fifty years.” (R17).

.  Removed to MO about 1869.  Melissa married 2 times, first to Mr. West and had two children, Harley West and Walter West.  She married second to Rev. Parker Moon and had one son we know of, Lonnie, there were other children but not known what their names were.  This family moved from Clinton Co., OH to near Carthage, MO about 1869.  There were several children, see pg. 429 of HH book, Vol I by WPJ, 1950.

   Note in that book states: "The Rev. Parker Moon was a noted evangelist, and Sunday School worker, and trafveled over Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona.  His owrk was with the Pioneers and also among the Indians.  He also served as Pastor of teh Quaker Church in the Quaker community northwest of Carthage, MO.  This was a large Quaker settlement, composed of families from Clinton Co., OH, and many Eastern states.  Our family attended chruch there many times when I was a boy.  We had a number of kinfolks living in that settlement. He also worked in the Quaker church in Lowell, Kansas where there was also a Quaker Academy.  He also worked in the Quaker Valley community north of Baxter Springs, Kansas.  There was also an Academy in this settlement.  His last work was in and near Phenix, Arizona.  He hten retired, and lived in Carthage, MO until his death some years ago.  He served in the Quaker Church for more then fifty years."  This was provided by William Edwin HIATT.

"Genealogy of our branch of the Quaker Hiatts" was written by Major William Edwin Hiatt; he completed it on June 15, 1950.

Melissa Wright, daughter of Anna Hiatt Wright married a Mr.  West.  They had 2 sons, Harley West, and Walter West.  After the death of Mr.  West, Melissa West married a Rev, Parker Moon.  They had several children, one by the name of Lonnie.  Harley West and Walter West were half brothers of Lonnie Moon.  William Hiatt visited many a time in their homes.

Parker Moon and wife, Melissa, moved from Clinton County, Ohio, to a farm in the Quaker settlement Northwest of Carthage, Mo., in the year 1869.

The Rev.  Parker Moon was a well known evangelist, and Sunday School worker, and traveled extensively over Mo., Kansas, Okla., Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona.  He worked among the Pioneer families and also among the Indians.  He served as pastor of the Quaker church in the Quaker community Northwest of Carthage Missouri.  This was a large Quaker settlement, composed of pioneer families from Clinton County, Ohio, and many eastern states.  The Lorenzo Dow Hiatt family attended church there many times, when William E.  Hiatt was a boy.  There were many families of kinfolk in that Quaker settlement.

Parker Moon also worked in the Quaker Church in Lowell, Kansas, where there was also a Quaker Academy.  He also worked in the Quaker Valley community North of Baxter Spgs., Kans., where there was also an Academy.  He frequently visited the Quaker College in Wichita, Kansas.  He also worked and served among several indian tribes in Okla.  He served in the Quaker Mission near Wyandotte, Okla., for a number of years.  He devoted his time among the Modoc Tribe and the Cherokees and also the Quapaws.  He also visited and worked in the pioneer coimunities of Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona.  In Phoenix, Arizona, he served his last assignment after a long and successful career in the Quaker Ministry After his retirement, he lived in Carthage, Mo., until his death.  Parker Moon served his church for over 50 years.

James L. Hiatt was my great great grandfather.  His mother was Mary A. (Lundy) Hiatt (nee Lundy) married 1 mo 1839 to Amos Hiatt b. 18-3mo 1817, to 23-08mo-1890, 2nd of 3 children.

- In 1839 he married Mary Ann Lundy  and had a son, James S. Hiatt. For some reason the mother took the son James S. to Windsor, Ontario, Canada. There he became a banker. His son George is a wealthy banker in Chicago. My father has visited both of them." B. M. Hiatt (R84).

ANTHONY WAYNE HULL- of Barton Co. Mo. born March 16, 1855 Licking County Ohio
died January 25, 1899. Anthony married Jemina(Jennie) Lazenby, November 29, 1877
in Barton Co. Mo. to this union there were four sons born; Thomas Ervin born
1879 died 1879, John Merlin born 1886, Harlie Hiatt born 1888, and Herbert
Benjamin born 1890.
Jennie born October 16, 1852 in Ohio to John Clark Lazenby and Mary P. Hiatt was
a school Teacher in Barton County Mo. Jennie died of cancer, as two of her
sons did and several of her grandchildren, May 9, 1893, she is buried in
Hackney Cemetery Jasper County Mo. leaving her husband and 3 small boys.
Jennie's brother Clark and sister Ruth raised the boys to manhood.
After Jennie's death Anthony moved to Adair, Mayes Co. Oklahoma (Indian
Territory). He then married a woman by the name of Mattie J.___ Mattie had a
daughter Pearl from a previous marriage.
Anthony lived in Adair until his death in 1899, he is buried in the city
cemetery under the name Wayne Hull.
