Samuel Black GASS

He drank before Elizabeth died. Didn't drink after that.


Patrick McLene GASS

Patrick had a pension of $99.00 a year & kept a journal of all he spent. I have a copy of Patrick Gass journel he wrote whole on the Lewis & Clark trip to the west coast. Wrote in 1807, only one on the trip tp keep a day to day record of trip to Pacific. When Maria Died, Patrick sent the children to different people to work & live. Maybe at his age he couldn't take care of the children.

       Patrick born at Falling Springs, Pa. He was barrel chested Irish man & Sergeant on the Lewis & Clark Expedition. Only one who kept a journal on the whole trip from St. Louis to Pacific Coast in 1804. He was in 1812 war & lost an eye at Fort Independence on the Missippipi River. He got a pension for life of $99.00 a year. He married at age 59 or 60, live in Kaskashia, IIIinois. He was dark complection, grey eyes, dark hair & 5 ft 7 in tall. He was saved and baptized at age 96 - 4/28/1867. He was nearly 99 when he died. In 1920 Patrick & Maria Gass remains were moved to Brooke Co. Cemetery at Wellsburg W. Va.


Maria HAMILTON

She was 16 when married. She died from Measles, age 32.


James Waugh GASS

Teaches at Walker Vernon Co. Mo.
