John was engaged in the plumbing and electrial business the first of its kind in Mt. Airy,NC. He installed the first water lines in Mt. Airy. At the age of 20 he left Mt. Airy, and was the owner and trainer of fine race horses. He was killed 3 miles east of Chicago by a train while on his way to Lincoln field track at Crete. Never married.
