“Elmer C. Hiatt served as a corporal in Co., ‘A’ 2nd Missouri Volunteer Infantry during the Spanish-American War 1898-1899.  After the War he and his father Lorenzo Dow Hiatt, opened up a grocery store in Carthage, Missouri.  In 1910 he bought his fathers interest in the store, and continued in business for a number of years.  He is a prominent Mason.  His address is 532 Oak Street, Carthage, Missouri.”(R17).
