C Columbus HOLYFIELD

Volunteered when he was 24 at Surry 4 May 1861.  He made Sergeant 10 Apr 1862.  AWOL 26 May 1864...1 Sep 1864, he was reduced in rank.... Sgt Co A 28 REG NC


Jonathan BARKER

Parents were farmers of the Haystack area.  He volunteered at Mt. Airy 20 May 1861.  He was active until he becme ill in Sept. 1861 and died 25 Oct 1861  of fever.


John WHITAKER

Farmer of Siloam,Surry,NC


George W WHITAKER

Volunteered with his brother, Joshua, at Surry 5 Jun 1861 when he was 20....Was court-martialed on Jan 27, 1864.  Reason he was court-martialed not reported.  Returned to duty on an unspecified date. There are no records for him after Feb 1865....His name does not appear in Surry records after the war, and he is believed to have been missing in action.  Pvt. Co h 21 Reg NC


Joshua WHITAKER

Volunteered with his brother George, 5 Jun 1861 when he was 18.  Deserted in Aug. 1863.  Returned to duty prior to 2 Oct. 1864.   He was taken prisoner 2 Oct 1864 at Mt. Crawford, VA and was a POW at Point lookout, MD.  From there he was sent on 13 Nov 1864 to Venus Point Savannah River, GA, where he was exchanged.  no other information.  He does not appear in Surry census records again.  He may have been missing in action.  Pvt Co H 21 Reg NC
