Thomas C. GRISHAM

From an email, 22 April 2004;

I too, am seeking information on this family and have obtained quite a bit of information from Jo Martin as a result of her posting to your inquiry.

I can fill in some of the blanks with documentation regarding Mary A. Hiatt and her brother, Silas A. Hiatt, the children of Joseph and Lucinda Hiatt.

Mary was my gg grandmother b. 3-28-1835 in Morgan Co., IN.  She married Thomas C. Grisham, son of Carlton and Nancy Jones Grisham.  They married on 1-12-1855 in Morgan Co., IN.  They moved to Cumberland Co., IL about 1864 with their 5 children;  William Wesley, Alexander, James Buchanan, Sophrona and Laura A. Grisham.  They homesteaded in Union Township, Cumberland Co., IL and had two moresons, Oliver U. (my g grandfather) and Jacob Franklin Grissom.  Their names appears for a warranty deed 11-13-1875, where they lived until their deaths.  Oliver, their son, then took possession and lived there until his death in 1949.  I have this lineage if anyone is interested.  Mary Thomas, and their son, Alexander are all buried in Nebo Cemetery, Union Center, Cumberland Co.

As for Silas A. HIATT, I don't know when he moved to IL, however, when Thomas and Mary it is bery probable they came with Thomas's brother, Nelson GRISHOM.  Nelson and Susan (Park) with their large family settled in the Cottonwood Township, Cumberland Co., IL. Nelson died suddenly in 1879 at the age of 48 0 and listed in the obituary (1928) of Lucinda Ellen HIATT as Mrs. Edna Hopper of Evansville, IN.  Silas and Susan HIATT and Nelson GRISSOM are buried in the Tippett Cem., Toledo, Cumberland Co., IL.
