Notes

Robert Russell JONES

Robert Russell was born on a Thursday, Nov. 5, 1953, at 7:20 A.M., at the Ashland General Hospital.  After trying the Dr.s on the Monthan Air Force Base, in Tucson, AZ. and having too many Dr.s examine me, I wanted to come back to Ashland and had my own Dr. Edward E. Brown deliver it.  Dr. Brown took a couple of pictures of Russell and gave the picture & negatives to me, later.  Ada & Theo came down and got me and brought me back home.  Russell was the largest baby I had, at 9 lbs. 2 oz.  I waited until he was a couple of weeks old, before taking my first airplane ride on a DC 4, back to Tucson, AR.

There was an epidemic in Tucson, that year, that they called the 1 hour pneumonia.  We heard of many babies that had died, but this is something that happened to other people.  But, he died on Dec. 15th, 1953, in the morning.  Marvin was being mustered out of the service, so I was trying to get things packed and ready.  I was an awful shock to me.  Ada, Theo and my mother drove down for the funeral.  We left right after the funeral and I didn't make it back to see his little grave until 40 years later.  Then, I was able to finally let him go.

My son, Les, took my 2nd husband, Cliff, and I to see the grave in 1993. It was in a section, called Babyland, where the graves aren't crammed against each other.  The bronze marker, that Ada & Ted bought for him, still looks good.  I told Les that I didn't remember any trees, when we buried him.  Les said to think about it and how much trees can grow in 40 years.  That's when I decided that I'd never move him, that he's in a beautiful place.

I flew down to spend some time with Les, over Labor Day, 1999 and we returned to visit the plot again.  Les was born a year after Russell, but has a brotherly bond with him, as he has visited the grave several times, by himself.

Henri was baptized in Frenchtown Catholic Church on Sept. 18, 1904.
His last name of Lussier was Anglicized to Lucier in 1914, in Montana.

After he and Sarah were married and their son, Donald, was 6 months old, they moved to Klamath Falls, Oregon.  Then they moved over the hill to work at the Gibson's sawmill, near the Applegate.  Their daughter, Donna, was born while they lived at Williams, Josephine, Oregon, in a Parsonage.  He worked for a short time at the Klutes' hop ranch, where their 3rd child, Ronald was born.  Then, on to Phoenix, Jackson, where their last child, Robert, was born.  They bought 3 acres at Talent, from a Mr. Glen Buell, built a house and raised their family there.  They finally sold the 3 acres, with a big lawn, and moved to Talent, Oregon. Later, after the death of her husband, Sarah moved into the Senior's Housing at Patio Village, in Talent.

Dad worked at Camp White during World War II, and was in charge of the Prisoners of War at Camp White.  When that job was over at the end of the war, he and 2 friends built a redwood shingle mill on the north corner of the property.  Dad got redwood poisoning from a splinter in the middle finger of his left hand.  He took the train to a Portland hospital several times.  They saved his finger, but it remained stiff the rest of his life.

Dad took an ICS Course in Refrigeration and always had his carpentry as a backup.

Dad died at the Rogue Valley Care Center at Medford, Oregon.  Room #9.
Hew was buried at Phoenix, Jackson, Oregon, 24 May 1989, at the Hillcrest Memorial Park, at Phoenix, OR.  He died at the age of 84.
