Volunteered for service 18 Sep 1861. Co. commanded by L. J. Norman...His regiment was sent to Roanoke Island, NC in Feb 1862 to protect the NC coast. The company was taken prisoner by the North, including Anderson, 8 Feb 1862. All were paroled at nearby Elizabeth City 21 Feb 1862. He was detailed as a division wagoneer from Sep[ 1863 thrugh Feb 1865 except when he was in the hospital at Danville with an infected arm. Surrendered at Appomattox 9 Apr 1865.
