mother could be Caroline F Thore, born Feb. 1847 NC, grandmother is Achasia Burrus b. Jan 1824 NC. according to the 1900 fed. census.
Richard moved with his father to Wytheville, VA before 1850 and came back to Surry to join the CSA. He entered 11 Oct 1863 and was active until taken prisoner 22 Aug 1864 at Charles Town, WV. He was a POW at Old Capitaol prison, Washington, DC, and Elmira, NY. He remained at Elmira from 28 Aug 1864 until 21 June 1865 when he took the Oath of Allegiance. Pvt. Co C 21 Reg NC
