Lacy Jasper (Capt.) NORMAN

Volunteered at Dobson 10 Aug 1861 and helped to orgainize the company with David M Cooper.  He was made First Lieutenant 25 Oct 1861.  Taken prisoner at Roanoke Island, NC, 8 Feb 1862, he was paroled at Elizabeth City, NC, 32 Feb 1862.  he made Capt. 1 Dec 1862. Led his company at Gettysburg with 32 guns.  There were 7 killed on the battlefield,  He suffered a wound in the Battle of Gettysburg 1-3 Jul 1863 and was back on duty the following Oct.  He received another wound at Winchester, and on the 19th of Oct., at Cedar Creek received 6 wounds from one ball.  The ball passing thru 3 fingers, his chin and thru the neck, coming out under his shoulder blade.  At every fight he would throw down his sword and pick up a gun, and at Spottsylvania courthouse, Moy 10th, when Col. Brabble, of the 32 d, and Maj. Indell (commanding the Battallion) of the 53d, wer killed, he mounted the breastworks and fought for 50 yards on his knees, shooting as fast as his men (from uner the breastworks) could hand him their loaded guns. He was at Appomattox Court House 9 Apr 1865 for the surrender.  After the war, Lacy was Surry Co. Clerk of Court.  He ran a hotel in Dobson that became the famous Kenlin Hotel. Capt. Co B 2nd Batt.
