He came to South Carolina about 177 and settled seven miles below Camden on a plantation now owned by Mr. William Boykin. He came to the Camden area with the Boykins, Whitakers and Perrys with his father-in-law, James Atkinson, Sr. In later years after the Rev., he and his step-son Absalom Blanchard, owned and operated a chair factory in Camden. Absalom Blanchard later moved to Pearl River, Miss to be with his daughter, Mary Blanchard who married William Thomas Lenoir, son of Hope Lenoir. After his 3rd marriage, Thomas moved to Wilkes Co, North Carolina. the marriages in brackets above were supplied by Mrs. Meade. Two children of Sarah Ransom Gwyn married two children of Thomas Lenoir. Mrs. Meade also lists: Martha Lenoir married Richard Ransome Gwyn of Wilkes Co, North Carolina. Court records of Lershaw Co, South Carolina and Sumter Co, South Carolina of the Estate of James Atkinson show that Martha, wife of Thomas Lenoir, Jr. was Martha Atkinson. James Atkinson's will filed in Sumter, dated 31 October 1785 says "..My dec'd daughter Martha Lenoir and her children..." Ruth Herndon Shields says that Dr. Felix Hickerson of Chapel Hill, North Carolina in his wonderful book about the Yadkin River section of North Carolina, called HAPPY VALLEY has a great deal of information and many interesting letters and pictures about this and other branches of the Lenoir family. But, he does not have the above Bible record of births.
Felix Henderson later wrote ECHOES OF HAPPY VALLEY
