George Burl ESTES

Notes: THE PARIS NEWS, 3 Feb 1959: 'George B. Estes, 95, retired contractor and farmer, died at home, 635 W. Sherman St., Tuesday about 6:40 p.m., after long ill health. The funeral, Thursday at 2 p.m., will be held at Fry and Gibbs chapel by the Rev. T. Frank George of First Presbyterian church, where M. Estes was elder emeritus, the Rev. Max Barton, assisting. Burial will be made in Evergreen Cemetery. Surviving are Mrs. Estes and four children, Mrs. Thomas Haynes and Mrs. Oscar Dunagan, Paris; O. T. Estes and L. G. Estes, Dallas, and six grandchildren. Born near Gaffney, S.C., 14 Dec 1863 [sic], George Estes was a son of the late Sylvanus and Mary Estes. He married Miss May Alberta McCulloch, in October, 1880 [sic], and they moved to Lamar County in 1894. Mr. Estes farmed at Brookston where he was made a ruling elder of the Presbyterian Church on transfer from Salem Church near Gaffney. He had joined the Masonic Lodge in South Carolina. In 1912, the family moved to Paris, Mr. Estes changing his church letter to First Church here. He was employed by House Hardware Company until after the 1916 fire, when he went into the contracting business, helping rebuild the city.' *On the same stone with May A. Estes.


Roy H. DUNNAGAN (DOAS)

Notes: THE PARIS NEWS, 15 Jul 1924: 'Funeral services for Commissioner Roy H. Dunagan, 41, who died at the Sanitarium of Paris about 3:40 o'clock Sunday morning, will be held at First Methodist church at 4 o'clock Monday afternoon. Services will be conducted by the Rev. C.M. Simpson and Dr. W. M. Wright. Burial will be at Evergreen cemetery. Mr. Dunagan has been a patient at the Sanitarium for more than two months, following a major operation. He was a native of Lamar county, having been born at Atlas, 5 Nov 1892, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Dunagan. Mr. Dunagan received his education in Paris schools, being a graduate of Paris high school. Serving his first term as commissioner from Precinct 2, Mr. Dunagan was elected vice president of the East Texas County Judges and Commissioners Association at a meeting held here last spring. Prior to his election as commissioner, Mr. Dunagan engaged in farming southwest of Paris. Survivors include his widow the former Miss Allie Hammond, to whom he was married 12 Nov 1913; two sons, Roy Hammond Dunagan, and Thomas Craig Dunagan of Paris; a brother, T. H. Dunagan of Houston; and a sister, Mrs. Henry Allen of Amarillo. Following funeral services at the church, a Masonic service will be held at the grave. Mr. Dunagan was past master of Paris Lodge No. 27, AF&AM and a member of LaFayette Chapter No. 48, R.A.M., and of LaFayette Council No. 34, R. and S.M. He was a member of First Methodistchurch and was active in church work as well as in civic work. He was also a member of the Paris High Twelve club.' *Buried next to Allie Hammond Dunagan. Tombstone is inscribed, 'Roy Dunagan.'


Etta DUNNAGAN (DOAS)

Notes: From an unnamed and undated article located in the Lamar County Genealogical Society Library, in the Taylor Collection, Box R. 'Mrs. Etta Dunagan Ritchie, 62, of 726 E. Washington St., died at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Saint Joseph's Hospital after a long illness. She had been a saleswoman here several years, and also managed her farm properties in the county. The funeral was arranged for 10 a.m. Friday at Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Walter Horn, with interment in Evergreen Cemetery. Louis Trapp, Johnnie Biard, Cecil Webb, Blake Lee, James Sheffield and Moss Wilson were named pallbearers. Mrs. Ritchie leaves one daughter, Mrs. Troy Martin, Paris; one son, James D. Ritchie, Pasadena, CA; and three grandchildren; besides two brothers, Oscar Dunagan, Paris, and Gaither Dunagan, Blossom. She was born in Paris, April 14, 1885, daughter of the late James C. and Minerva Crenshaw Dunagan. She was graduated from old Kidd-Key College, Sherman, with bachelor of arts in literature in 1906. A member of Central Presbyterian Church, she had sung in its choir since 1905.' *Buried next to Minerva A. Dunagan.


Alyce Ruth DUNNAGAN (DOAS)

Notes: THE PARIS NEWS, Fri., May 2, 1997, p.8A: 'Alyce Haynes, 8O, of Tyler, formerly of Paris died Thursday, May 1, 1997. Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home will conduct graveside services at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 3, at Meadowbrook Cemetery with the Rev. Blake Dunagan officiating. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. She was born Feb. 13, 1917, in El Paso to A.O. and Pauline Vice Dunagan. She was a resident of Paris most of her life before moving to the Tyler/Lindale area in 1988. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Paris and First Baptist Church of Lindale. She was a longtime member of Berean Bible Club in Paris and the Seniors Sunday School Class in Lindale. She was a devoted housewife, mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed. Mrs. Haynes was preceded in death by a sister and brother and by her loving husband of 62 years, R.J. Haynes. Surviving are two sons, Michael K. Haynes of Belton and Robert Stephen Haynes of Tyler; a brother, Blake Dunagan of Flint; a sister, Jean Koger of Greenville; a sister-in-law, Mildred Haynes of Paris; five grandchildren, Brent Haynes, Holly Boren, Shari Ann Jeffrey, Heather Haynes and Melanie Haynes; numerousgreat-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Other family members and friends include Kay Haynes, Kathy Haynes, Marj Haynes, Robin Haynes, Darryl Jeffery, Cully Boren and Patti Stallings.'


Bessie Lee ESTES

Notes: THE PARIS NEWS, Mon., Mar. 25, 1996, p.2a. 'Bessie Lee Estes Haynes, 93, of Paris died at 9:15 p.m. Saturday, March 23, 1996, at McCuistion Regional Medical Center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 26, at Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. John Kelley officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Mrs. Haynes was born Sep. 7, 1902 [sic], in Brookston, a daughter of George Burl and Mary Alberta McCulloch Estes. She attended schools in Paris and was a 1920 graduate of Paris High School. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Paris and was named one of the first women deacons of the Paris Presbytery. She later was a charter member of Faith Presbyterian Church. She married Thomas Campbell Haynes Oct. 24, 1929, in Paris. He preceded her in death on Jan. 12, 1951. Surviving are a son, Thomas Estes 'Tommy' Haynes and his wife Susan of Paris; two daughters, Mary Lynne Jones and husband Gus of Sherman and Charlotte Ann Haynes of Houston; five grandchildren, Angela Lynne Jones of Waco, Stephanie Haynes of Philadelphia, PA, Erica Eason of Dallas, Amy Jones Romano and husband Paul of Houston and Christopher Haynes of New York City; four nephews, O.T. Estes of Cookeville, TN, Terry K. Haynes and Bill Haynes, both of Paris, and Hicks Haynes of Cumby; three nieces, Georgalean Sample of Lancaster, Flora Mae Cox of Plano and Margaret Jackson of Canyon; and one cousin, Geraldine Moss of Houston. She was preceded in death by two brothers, O.T. Estes Sr. and Loyce Estes; and by a sister, Mary B. Dunagan Ritchey. Pallbearers will be Henry Thielman, Gene Thielman, J.W. Ashmore, Thomas Hunt, Charles Price and Austin Ellison.'


Bess DUNNAGAN (DOAS)

Notes: THE PARIS NEWS, 14 Mar 1983: 'Mrs. Bess D. Allen of Denver, Colo. died there Tuesday, March 14, 1983. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, March 18, with the Rev. Dick Atkinson officiating and burial in Evergreen Cemetery. Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home has charge of arrangements. Mrs. Allen was born 22 Nov 1890, in Paris, a daughter of Thomas J. Dunagan and Sally Craig Dunagan. She attended Paris schools and moved to Amarillo in 1928 and to Denver in 1946. She was a Methodist. She married William Henry Allen in 1914 in Paris. He died 23 May 1935. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Anne Hamilton of Denver; a grandson, Allen Hamilton of Denver; and a great grandson, Lee Hamilton of Denver.' *Buried nextto Henry William Allen.
