Howard Mervin Eager

Services for Howard Mervin Eager, 79, will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of the Oberlin & Ford Memorial Funeral Home.  The Rev. Ken Wellman will officiate, and burial will be in Shiffler Cemetery.

Mr. Eager died Sunday, March 18, 1990, at Albebarle Hospital in Elizabeth City, N.C.

A native of Bryan, he was the son of Florence (Dick) and Lee Eager.

Mr. Eager was retired from True Temper as a lithographer and was a member of the Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Lucille Grandbouche Eager; two daughters, Luella Louise Smith and Patricia Lou Erter, both of Virginia Beach, VA; two sons, Alfred Lee Eager of Rock Creek and Howard J Eager of Elizabeth City, N.C.; a sister, Helen Sherman of Apache Junction, Ariz; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.  Preferred memorials are to a charity of the donor's choice.

ASHTABULA - Lucille L. Eager, 88, of North Kingsville died Sunday, June 10, 2001 at Carington Park.

The daughter of Ella (Sidle) and Alfred Grandbouche, she was born Dec. 25, 1912, in Stryker, and had been an Ashtabula County resident most of her life.

Prior to her retirement in 1955, she was employed by Reliance electric as a winder, and while living in Bryan, she worked for the Ohio Art Company.  She was a member of the East Plymouth Grange, the Edgewood Alliance Church, and a former member of the Plymouth United Methodist Church and Ladies Auxillary, and the Plymout Volunteer Fire Department.

Surviving are two daughters, Luella Smith and Patricia Erter, both of Virginia Beach, VA; a son, Alfred L Eager of Ashtabula; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Musser of Sonoma, Calif; and a half brother, John Grandbouche of Hurricane W.V.

Preceeding her in death were her husband, Howard M Eager in 1990; three sons, Rollie, Roland, and Howard J Eager, a great-grandson Joshua Steven Wright; a half-sister Ella Mae Humbarger, a brother, Lyman Grandbouche, and her parents.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 7-8 p.m. in the Edgewood Alliance Church, 6209 Ohio I93, Kingsville.

Services will be Thursday at 8 p.m. at the church, with the Rev. C. Keith McKenzie officiating.  Internment will be Friday at 1 p.m. in Shiffler Cemetery in Williams County.

Memorials may be made to the church of to the family.

Ducro Funeral Services and Crematory in Ashtabula is in charge of arrangements.

Helen P. Sherman
(1912 - 2002)

Helen P. Sherman, 89, of Apache Junction, Ariz., died sunday, May 5, 2002 at Harborside Healthcare Northeweastern Ohio-Bryan, following an extended illness.

Born Sept. 29, 1912, in Bryan to Florence (Dick) and Lee Eager, she married Wilbert Sherman in 1932 and he preceded her in death in 1993.

A homemaker, she was a member of the Nettle Lake United Brethern Church.

Surviving is a son, Richard Sherman of Apache Junction, Ariz.; two grandchildren; three step grandchildren, and numberous great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Tuesday from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. in the Grisier Funeral Home in Stryker.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Robert Staup to officiate.

Memorials may be made to the American Cnacer Society or the American Heart Association.

WEST UNITY - Ethel Eileen Siegel, 72, West Unity, died at her residence Tuesday afternoon, July 28, 1992, following a lengthy illness.

A Bryan native, she had been a resident of the West Unity area for 53 years.

Born Nov. 15, 1919, she was the daughter of Erma (Penrod) and James Eager.

Mrs. Siegel was a member of the West Franklin Church of Christ, the ladies aid organization of the church, the Carnation Literary Club and the Brady Grange.

Surviving are her husband of 53 years, Glen A Siegel; two daughters, Mrs. Wayne (Peggy) Schmucker of West Unity and Mrs. Sandra Wyse of Monroe, Mich.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Elsie Beck of Stryker.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Hollingshead Funeral Home, West Unity, with Larry Snow, minister of the West Franklin Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Grove Cemetery, West Unity.

Friends may call in the funeral h ome from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday.  Preferred memorials are to Hospice Care of Williams County.

MONTPELIER - Marjorie Mason, 79, Montpelier, died unexpectedly Friday, June 5, 1998 at Evergreen Manor Nursing Home, Montpelier, where she had recently resided.

Born Oct. 18, 1918, near Bryan, to Rosa (Wiedler) and Charles Roy Eager, she was a homemaker.

She was a member of the former Mount Olive United Methodist Church where she served as pianist for many years.  She was recently affiliated with the First United Methodist Church in Montpelier.

She is survived by four sons, O. Robert (Marvell), D. George, both of Montpelier, Donald D. (Joyce), and Charles E. (Coleen), both of Edon; three daughters, Mrs. Raymond (Orpha "Mitzi") Turner, Pittsford, Mich.; Mrs. Larry (Marsha) Snyder, Montpelier, and Mrs. John (Sue) Seamen, Edon; 15 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, Harold Eager, Stryker; and one sister Lucille Swishes, Greenville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Oren R. Mason on Jan 26, 1994 and a sister Margaret Imm.

The family will receive friends in the Wilson Geesey Funeral Home, Montpelier, from 2-9 p.m. on Monday.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home, with the Rev. Robert Damschroder officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Montpelier.

Preferred memorials may be made to the donor's choice.

STRYKER - Gladys M Eager, 79, of Stryker, died Tuesday morning, Sept 4, 2001, in the Community Hospitals of Williams County - Bryan following a brief illness.

The daughter of Pearl (Balzer) and Walter Hancock, she was born Feb 10, 1922 in Ney. On Oct 7, 1939, she married Harold "Bud" Eager, and he preceded her in death on Feb 4, 2000.

A member of the Stryker United Methodist Church, she was a retired employee of Scott Port-A-Fold Inc., and was formerly employed with Ohio Art in Bryan.  She had also worked as a cook for several area restaurants, including the Country Squire Restaraunt.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Darwin (Bonnie) Robison of Coldwater, Michigan., Mrs. Lenny (Jean) Stamm of Archbod and Mrs. Bruce (Gus) Kannel of Edon: seven grand-children; 13 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Eunice Oyer of Wauseon, Evelyn Clark of Stryker and Grace Faunce of Montpelier; and five brothers; Charles Hancock of Florida, Donald Hancock of Berne, Ind., Jack Hancock of Edon, Robert Hancock of Bryan and Oscar Hancock of Woonsocket, R.I.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her husband, were her parents; and a brother, Harvey.

Friends may call from 2-9 p.m. Friday at the Grisier Funeral Home in Stryker.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Stryker United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jeffrey Ridenour and Pastor Doug Schrock officiating.  Interment will be in the Oakwood Cemetery in Stryker.

Memorials may be made to the Stryker United Methodist Church or to charity of the donor's choice.
