Catherine Louise Livingston CATLIN
Because she was apparently illegitimate, it is not certain that she used the name Catlin. In fact, she achieved fame as a short-story writer, using the name Catherine DeWolf. She was educated abroad, spoke 7 languages, and was "of great beauty and charm." (And probably a very independent woman.)
If the dates I have are correct, at least three of her four children were also illegitimate.
His surname at birth is not clear. At some point, the name Smith was changed to DeWolf. (Possibly this decision was "inspired" by has daughter-in-law Catherine, who might have thought that the name Smith was pedestrian. Just speculating.)
A mining engineer at South Hera, Vermont.
