My source says that Hoyt is given as a son of Stephen and Abigail for two reasons:
1. His dates are about right.
2. His great-great grandfather is reputed to have been captured, taken to Canada, and then returned.It seems likely that he belongs somewhere in this generation of this family line, but why not somewhere else? It is especially important, because his descendency is considerable.
He abandoned his family, moved west, and had another family.
