From Don Hiatt, 6 Feb 2006, 1905 NE 108th St., Mitchellville, IA 50169

Tamer first child born in Chesterhill, Wayne Co., IN.  Moved from Bellmont Co., OH to Indiana before 1830 (1830 Census of Wayne Co., IN)   Moved to Athens Co., OH before 1834 to help his father in law establish the town of Chesterhill.  He built the first log cabin in the town of Chesterhill and was a charter member of Chesterfild MM and later he was an overseer of "that important conservative monthly meeting."
I do not know Anne (Boswell) Hiatt's date of death or place of inernment.  We do have the original Quaker Marriage certificate.  Elijah married Hannah Hianes, daughter of Isaac and Lydia (Smith) Haines at Chesterfield MM 1849-8-30.
Hannah born 1811, died 1897, buried in the Mitchellville Cem.
Children:  Isaac Haines Hiatt born 5-20-1850, died 12-27-1936, buried Mitchellville Cem.

Elijah and his 2nd wife, Hannah, moved from Cheseterhill, Ohio to Mitchellville, IA by covered wagon prior to the Civil War, about 1861.  THey bought a farm south of Mitchellville, actually in Jasper Co. but had a Mitchellville mailing address.  The farm stayed in the family until 1995 and was the home of four generations, Eilijah, Isaac, Charles and Richard.
Elijah, Isaac and Hannah stayed in the town of Mitchellville with friends until they could build a house on the farm.  Isaac was a young man and helped his father plant the first crop.

Charles Elijah HIATT

From Don Hiatt of Mitchellville, IA, 6 Feb 2006.
The only surviving child of Isaac and Mary, Charles E. was a farmer by occupation, living on the family farm and was very good at developing open pollinated corn.  The farm was visited often by Henry A. Wallace, the developer of Pioneer Hybred corn.  He roamed the fields and took several notes.  My grandfather was photoed and appeared in Wallaces Farmer Magazine.  He possessed many county and state fair ribbons for his entries.
