LETTERS KEPT SINCE THE WAR
These are history of another age
of another time, another rage;
The words are mummified now.
Yellowing in their bandage of Strings
Beneath once rationed underthings;
They lack reason in this hour.
There they lay, the imperfect dead,
Once they were read
And once believed.  That is enough.
Resurrected true-love pleas
Expose the human inconsistencies
Dust, disturbed, causes sneezing or tears

It was Ernest and Neva (Nickell) Bales, of Fairbury, Neb. who contributed
much of this data on his parents, Clay and Elizabeth (Brumbaugh) Bales, and
gave me the names of his brothers and sisters, that I could write them for
their assistance in this quest of mine for material on my people and their
people.
On the afternoon of Oct 5, 1959, Ernest L. and Neva (N) Bales, of Fairbury
Neb. who were visiting her people in Browning, Mo came on down to Linneus, Mo.
to call on Annis and Mayme Bales, the latter being the writer of this record.
Ernest a grandson of Amer Jackson and Matilda H. (Nolin) Quick Beals, the 2nd
wife.  While here, Ernest presented to me the following "Old Tresures" that
once belonged and were cherished by his father, Clay Bales.

in McCook, Neb  Through this contact, and with the assistance of his daughter

THE WEAVER
My life is but a weaving
     Betweeen my Lord and me,
   I cannot choose the colors
     He worketh steadily
   Oftimes He weaveth sorrow,
     And I in foolish pride
   Forget He sees the upper
     And I, the underside.
Not till the loom is silent
And the shuttles cease to fly
   Shall God unroll the canvas
     And explain the reason why.
   In the Weaver's skillful
     hand
As the threads of gold and
     silver
   In the pattern He has
     planned
