Historical Notes:
(1) Issac Hite, Jr. was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society 1776. This was the first Greek Letter Fraternity in the United States. he was Secretary of the Society in 1777. He enlisted as a private in the Revolutionary War, when, is not known, but his commission as Ensign 8th Virginia Regiment was dated 1782. The same year he was Lieutenant and served to the end of the war. He acted as aide to General Muhlenberg at the siege of Yorktown and lost a finger. In his private note book in his own handwriting are noted the events of each day of the siege, the number of officers, men and arms surrendered by the British and the "Articles of Capitulation." The text of these entries may be found in the reference work "Some Prominent Virginia Families, pages 366, 367."
After the close of the Revolution, Issac Hite, Jr. was commissioned Major in the militia of Frederick County, Virginia.
