Andrew HOOVER Sr.

Migrated to America in 1740; settled in Maryland; married Margaret Fountz.
The original spelling of name was HUBER. Moved with family to what is now
Randolph County, North Carolina, about 1750, and settled on a large
plantation on the  Uwharrie River.  Nearly all of the eight sons and five
daughters were born there.  Andrew (Andreas) Hoover was one of the leading
members of the Society of Friends and took an active part in the business
affairs of his community.  He built a grist mill at the fork of the Big
and Little Uwharrie Rivers which was inherited by his son, Jacob.  He died
on his plantation and his body rests in the Hoover burying ground, which
was part of his extensive estate.  It is located 16 miles south of the
town of Asheboro, Randolph County, NC, and is a mile from any road. Andrew
Hoover was the great-great grandfather of former President Herbert Clark
Hoover. Two of Andrew's sons, Jacob and Jonas, remained in North Carolina.

Andrew Hoover (Cont): The other six sons, Andrew Jr, JOHN, David, Daniel,
Peter and HENRY, moved to western Ohio early in the 1800s.Andrew Jr
settled near Richmond, Wayne County, Indiana in 1807 and his son, Judge
David Hoover, is generally regarded as the founder of Richmond.  HENRY and
Peter Hoover moved from Montgomery County, Ohio, to farms southwest of
Green's Fork, Wayne County, Indiana in 1811.  Daniel, David and John
Hoover continued to reside in Western Ohio.  Descendants of JOHN moved to
West Branch, Cedar County, IA, about 1850, where his son, JESSE CLARK
HOOVER, settled. JESSE'S son, HERBERT CLARK HOOVER, was born there 10 Aug
1874, and subsequently became the 31st president of the United States in
