Kelsey William PARKER

Kelsey William Parker joined the Conway, Arkansas Fire Department in 1924. He became chief of the department in 1935 and retired in 1948. When he joined the fire department in 1924, the department was only three years old, and he was one of two fulltime firemen. In addition to being on duty as a fireman, he also ran generating equipment in the city's light plant, which adjoined the fire station. After his retirement from the fire department, he became manager of the Faulkner County Fair Association. During World War II, he became an American Red Cross first aid instructor and conducted more than 100 first aid classes.

He was named William Kelsey Parker for the Reverend William Kelsey, a Methodist minister. He was always called Kelsey and, when he was grown, he reversed the order of his first and middle names.


Daisy Henrietta SAYE

During the Depression, Daisy Saye Parker worked out of her home as a seamstress. During World War II, she was a production worker in a munitions plant, later going to work in the bindery of the Conway Printing Company. She worked as a proofreader for the Conway Printing Company and the Log Cabin Democrat until her retirement at the age of 78. When she was about 89 years old, she returned to the work force as receptionist at Quality Mobile Homes at Conway. Her last day to work was February 21, 1996, the day of her death. She was active in First Baptist Church of Conway, where she taught a Sunday school class for many years, and she also worked as a volunteer at Conway Memorial Regional Hospital.
