According to Joseph Hiatt's sister, Tena, Rhoda and Joseph eloped. Since their marriage was not listed in Madison Co records they apparently were married in an adjoining county. They lived on Joseph's farm on the west side of his father Jesse's farm from c1887 until c1897.

Many years ago ‘Ves’ as we called him moved to Oregon ___ lived in Washington at ___. One boy died ___ lost all trace of the rest.”

Owen removed to Holt Co. Mo. in the spring of 1839. He died on the way to Texas with his father in law, Zachariah McGee.
He married first to Elizabeth Hiatt, daughter of John N. Hiatt and Emily, see First marriage recorded in Ray Co., Mo.
