The legend is, that he and his sister Ann, were "of gentle blood," and left
orphans at an early age, under the guardianship of an uncle. The latter being
an avaricious man, and desirous of securing their fortune to himself, sent them
to New England, under the pretense of giving them an education; after which he
squandered their property, and left them desitute.
Having found their way to Straford, they came to Woodbury, with one of the
removing parties.
