Centennial Book of Lynch, Neb.
Jesse Elwin Hiatt and Grace Belle Mark were married March 9, 1900 at Butte, Neb. They lived on a farm north of Lynch until retirement. Children born to Jesse and Grace were Robert, Carolyn, Marie (Simonds), Ivan, Virgil, Gladys (Larsen), David, Dwight, Irene (Lewis), and Elizabeth (Mrs. Delbert Marlatt). They were members of the Highland Friends Church, known as Highland Monthly Meeting, which was established May 21, 1893. Their parents were early settlers in the Lynch area. (According to 1992 Lynch, Neb. Centenial Book.)Written by David Hiatt: "Now for the Marks, I think you probably have more information than I've ever had on them. I know Grandfather was a Civil War vet. I believe he enlisted from Indiana also, later moved to Iowa still later to Bloomfield (or Kema) and still later to Lynch. He established and run the mail rout #1 out of Lynch until his death. He had a stroke on the route but his team of horses kept going, stopping a few thimes, the horses stopped to long at one box and a man went to see what was wrong, found granpa unconcious. Grandmother lived 30 days and died at the dame time (estimated that he did. They are both buried at Lynch but not in the Highland Cemetery. I've forgotten the name of the Cemetery but it's a short distance south of town. Granpa Marks had a Stroke on his Mail route and was taken to their home in Lynch and lived awhile there. I had opportunity to go down and see him in bed there but he never got concious enough to know a lot before he died.
When they first moved to Lynch they lived on a farm north of twon and a couple of years ago the buildings were unused but still standing. They donated land from their farm for the Higland Church. I am not sure who donated the land for the cemetery which was across the road from the church. The church burned and they could not rally enough funds to rebuild it so eventually they took the land back into the farm. I have no idea who owns the land now after he retired from farming and established the mail route they moved into town and bought a house in the east part of town. It is still there too, or was not long ago, and still in fair shape. Well, I don't know anything else that would be of any value or interest. I hope I have helped and let us hear from you again soon. Much Love DaveFrom minutes of the Hiatt family reunion June 17, 1951
