There is no date or place of death for Nathan because in the fall of 1827 or 1828, Nathan and three or four other men started down the Ohio River from Harrison County, IN with a flatboat-load of produce bound for New Orleans. They were never heard from again, but it has been written that they were lost on the Mississippi River on their way back home. This information came from Oliver Shields' father, Milton Shields.
