Historical Notes:
Lloyd Everall Browning was born and raised on Buffalo Creek in Logan
County. He raised the most of his families living by gardening, livestock,
corn and hay. He dug gen sang in season, and cut timber and took it down the
river by raft on the Guyandotte River. His home was a Jenny Lynn with a
thatched roof.In 1908 he bought a store at Lax from Ulysses and Grace Burgess. Then in
1910 he built a store building at Robinette. He built a new home at the same
time as the store. Another new and larger store building followed shortly
thereafter.Mr. Browning had only finished school to the 5th or 6th grade,
thereforerealizing his need of bookkeeping assistance, he boarded a school
teacher by the name of POTTS, for a year of lessons in bookkeeping.Mr. Browning was elected as a County Commissioner for Logan County.
There was always people around his home. Friends and relatives. He later
moved to Cabell County West Virginia, where he bought the Charley Morris Farm.
The house at this farm was built in 1842, and the land was originally part of
the old Saunders grant.The family enjoyed living in Cabell County. The family belonged to the
Elmwood Baptist Church.From 1924 to 1932 Mr. Browning was a deputy sheriff of the McComas
District of Cabell County.In his later years Mr. Browning spent his winters in Florida, where they
made a lot of friends.
