Necessary Explanations:
(1) On page 611 of Thelma C. Anderson's "Workman Family History," Micajah
Goodwin White is mistakenly identified as James Goodwin White. IT was
Goodwin's eldest brother who was named James White.Historical Notes:
(1) Micajah Goodwin White, was called "Goodwin" by all who knew him. He was a
miller by trade. This youngest son of Benjamin Harrison and Nancy (Goodwin)
White joined earlier settlers near Bald Knob in that part of Boone County West
Virginia, over the ridge from Logan County, where many of his kinsmen remained.During the nineteenth century a well-traveled road leading up the Jasper
Workman Branch of Pond Fork to the head of Buffalo Creek made contact between
the two sections relatively easy; and it was probably this "courtship route"
that resulted in the marriage in about 1832 between Goodwin White and Matilda
Workman, (who was daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (McNeely) (Elkins) Workman.Early in the War of the Rebellion, Goodwin White served in the 187th
Virginia Militia, and in October 1861 his name appeared on the rolls of Captain
Joseph H. Barker's company. Of the four sons who also served in the Union
Army, two were casualties of the war.Over a span of twenty-six years Goodwin and Matilda White had eleven
children who reached adulthood - all apparently born at the family home on Pond
Fork, Boone County, West Virginia.

Historical Notes:
(1) Benjamin H. White was the eldest son born to Goodwin and Matilda (Workman)
White. He died in service to the Union cause in 1862.

Historical Notes:
(1) Joseph N. White, like his oldest brother enlisted in the 8th Virginia
Mounted Infantry, which became Company "B" of the 7th West Virginia Cavalry of
the United States Army after the formation of the State of West Virginia. He
too, died in service to the Union Cause.
