The second marriage in Adams County and the first in Ursa Township was that of George Campbell and Mary, daughter of Samuel Groshong. Mary was born in Lincoln Co., MO, May 1811.
Andrew J. Campbell, son of George andMary Campbell, was the first white child born in Ursa Township. Ten otehr children were born to this union. Their land, teh northeast quarter of Section 31, is still known as Walnut Grove Farm. See "Some of the Old Settlers of Adams County" by Samuel J. There is a story of how Indians came and got Andrew J. Campbell. When Mary thought they had him long enough, she went and brought him home. She'd just get him cleaned up and htey would be back and take him again. His mother always said that he nursed the Indian women more then he did her.
