(1) Captain William Bibb was a member of the Committee of Safety in 1775; he
served as High Sheriff during the Revolution. After the independence was
secured and peace declared he moved to Elbert County Georgia, where he took a
prominent and active part in affairs of both Church and State.

William Wyatt BIBB Gov. of Alabama
(1) Governor William Wyatt Bibb was Governor of Alabama. He graduated at
William and Mary College, and studied Medicine at the University of
Pennsylvania, he received his M.D. in 1801. He moved to Georgia, and served
with distinction successively in two branches of the Legislature. He was in
the U.S. Congress from 1807 to 1813; in the United States Senate from 1816, in
which year he removed to Alabama, which was then a Territory. He was Governor
of the same from 1817 to 1819, and was the First Governor of the State, serving
from 1819 until his death in 1820. He was succeeded in office by his brother
Thomas Bibb.
