Benjamin OCHS

Following taken from La Porte City IA newspaper clipping
(abridged):Benjamin Ochs, a resident of this vicinity since childhood,
died in his home in this city last Saturdy morning after a gradual decline
in health for the past three years. The funeral service was held Monday
afternoon in the home of Roy E Ashley and was conducted by Rev I L Treese,
pastor of Wesleyan Chapel, and interment was made in West View cemetery.
Benjamin, son of Jesse and Katie Ochs, was born July 14th, 1961, in
Sulferd township, Montgomery county, PA, and died February 19th, 1938.  He
was the oldest of three children and his parents moved to a farm in
Buchanan county  IA when he was a child.  He grew to manhood on the farm
and was married to Ruth Hannah Teeter on April 10th, 1890. They
established their home on a farm in Buchanan county where they lived for a
year and a half and then moved to a place in Spring Creek twp where they
lived until retiring and moved to La Porte City in 1907. Mr Ochs engaged
in business, handling feeds and coal, and continued in that line until
1920. For the past few years he has assisted with light work at the
Farmers Supply office. Cont'd in (Buried) note:

Ruth Hanna TEETER

         The family farm home was in Section 15.

    Taken from newspaper clipping from local paper (abridged): For many months Ruth had been in failing health, but until about two months prior to her death she was able to be about and attend to her household duties as
usual.  For eight weeks before her death she had been a great sufferer,
her pain being caused by cancer of the stomach.  She was surrounded by her
family and friends when she died at her home. Funeral services were held
Sunday March 30, 1919, in the Emmanuel Evangelical church, La Porte City,
IA, conducted by the pastor, Rev. C. Schluter, after which the remains
were laid to rest in West View Cemetery.  Mrs. Ochs was a kind and loving
wife and mother, self sacrificing to the last degree for the benefit of her
family and friends, and whe will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Four children were born to Benjamin and Ruth, one of whom passed away in
infancy.  Three children, Mrs Jessie Crawford, of Waterloo, John and
Catherine, and the husband of La Porte City, are left to mourn her death.
The deceased is also survived by two grandchildren, an aged mother, Mrs
Daniel B Teeter, of Waterloo, and four brothers and three sisters, as
